New Year same old MIDRANGE player

It's been 4 months since I last wrote something on this blog. Decided why not write something for the NEW YEAR. For starters, I'm still playing my favorite MTG archetype which is midrange. I've been going back and forth with BlackRed Midrange and BlackGreen Midrange. I've been changing builds week after week trying to find the sweet spot and right build.

Midrange is a type of deck that fills the void in between aggro and control. It wants to control the board against aggressive decks, trading resources, and taking advantage of superior cards in an attrition game. On the flip side, it wants to aggro out enough threats against control decks and also trading resources.

Let us start with the staples. Sheoldred, the Apocalypse is a hell of a magic card and It is really hard to find a card better than her in the 4-drop slot though in some decks she has been relegated to the sideboard.

Mosswood Dreadknight - When I first saw this card, I said to myself I can't pass on this one and should get myself a playset. Midrange is written all over this card which has descent stats and mana cost. A recursive threat that can give card advantage is a good tool to have.

Glissa Sunslayer - At the 3-drop slot is a force not to be trifled with. With First Strike and Deathtouch, Glissa Sunslayer seldom loses in combat. With a handful of abilities that draw you cards, take off counters, and destroy enchantments she is very hard to pass on the 3-drop slot.

The recent set LOST CAVERNS OF IXALAN brought with it new tools for the BlackGreen Midrange cause. Disruption and card advantage were brought to the table with these cards so I mixed and matched them with the other staples.

Being the control deck against the aggro decks . We need to pack enough removals for us to keep a healthy life total in order for us to take control of the game and play our advantages.

We need disruption against control decks thus we need these cards.

Planeswalkers

The current standard meta is littered with board wipes such as SUNFALL, DEPOPULATE, and FAREWELL but all of them can't hit planeswalkers. Having them not only as a source of disruption (LotV) but also a source of creatures that doubles as artifacts and enchantment removal ( NIssa).

This is currently my decklist for my Golgari Midrange .
